The Medication Aide program at Ohio Medical Academy is designed for individuals seeking to expand their skills and responsibilities within the healthcare field. As a Medication Aide, you will be trained to safely administer medications to patients under the supervision of licensed nurses and healthcare providers.
What Does a Medication Aide Do?
Medication Aides play a critical role in patient care by managing the safe delivery of prescribed medications. They assist nursing staff by administering medications, monitoring patient reactions, and maintaining accurate medication records. This role is ideal for Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and other healthcare workers looking to broaden their expertise and take on more responsibilities in healthcare facilities.
Program Overview
Our Medication Aide program offers in-depth training on medication administration techniques, patient safety, and ethical practices. You will learn how to properly administer oral, topical, and injectable medications, as well as how to monitor and report patient responses.

Medication Preparation & Distribution
Gain practical skills in preparing medications, calculating dosages, and ensuring safe and accurate delivery to patients. -
Infection Control & Safety
Understand the importance of infection prevention when administering medications, including proper hand hygiene and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). -
Monitoring Patient Reactions
Learn how to assess and monitor patient responses to medications, as well as how to recognize and manage adverse reactions. -

Become familiar with the regulations governing medication administration and the importance of maintaining accurate medical records.
Program Duration & Schedule
- Duration: The Medication Aide program can be completed in approximately 8 days.
- Class Schedules: Classes are held Monday through Friday 3pm-8pm with two days of clinical from 6 AM to 2 PM or 2 PM to 10 PM.
